Comments:
My vote was a 10 for it, it's the only promising game out there. Your guys work has come a long way can't wait to play it.
Now, if we could just get some write-ups and pics of Dwarves and their capital, it'd be 10 outta 10.
I have never even heard of the other games. I'm out of the loop and the only thing that will bring me back is Darkfall.
Al Pacino (Simple Plan's Any given sunday)
in any fight, its the guy who's willing to die who's gonna win that inch! and i know if im gonna have any life anymore, its because im still willing to fight, and die, for that inch!! In every MMORPG the cry for permadeath can be heard, even in the sacred Utopian WoW: http://wowvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Editorials.Detail&id=4 DF lost of a lot of original fans when they unveiled no PD. Go through some of their archives: http://forums.darkfallonline.com/archive/index.php/t-780.html Many of the people you find there are not here anymore. (Atleast the ones called for PD) The thoughts and ideas of permadeath are underpinned throughout society. Its pervasive, expected and easily understood. Take Miss Stefani: Gwen in Holla Back Girl So that's right dude, meet me at the bleachers No principals,no student-teachers Both of us want to be the winner, but there can only be one So I'm gonna fight, gonna give it my all Gonna make you fall, gonna sock it to you That's right I'm the last one standing, another one bites the dust Now I'm pretty sure shes never played a MMORPG but the concept is right there. No Alignment faeries, meet me at the bleachers and there can be only one. Brain dead zealots should atleast be able to see that! Now in DF PD is a pretty touchy subject. If you want to know why ask Teth... I think he has a macro that spews out the same phrases and tired recycled regurgitated psychobabble. ;-) (Moderate that... you know you want to!) Yet lets look at this guys claus argument: Claus In my opinion permadeath is directly conflicting with the very nature of PvP. Opinion... Cool we dont have to bother debunking this... Claus It's very simple math really. If you kill someone and they are permanently dead, and let's say for the sake of argument it takes them one month to rebuild their character to the same skill and equipment level that they had before you killed them - well, you will quickly run out of people to fight. OK lots of assumptions big guy... 1. Who says 1 death = permadeath is required for permadeath? 2. If the game is fun and PD is implemented correctly why WONT THE PLAYERS MAKE ANOTHER CHARACTER? Claus When you play a PvP game, your average player is not looking for a few fights every month, but rather a good flow of action-packed PvP fights every gaming session. Yep... Assuming you make characters fragile and want to waste their time all day by making them reequip and spawn 10000 miles away over and over again I think you have a point. A really bad game design. Where did you pick it up from? *EVERY OTHER DAMN GAME ON THE MARKET!!!* So your logical enough to say that Level based PvP is pretty stupid but cant transcend the other game layers and think about those as well? 1. Not all conflicts end in a respawn. Some examples in past games: E-Summon, Running away, severly injured, recalled, friends show up to aid you... Etceta.... 2. Your still assuming each death results in rerolling.... 3. Fighting should be allowed and unrestricted but it shouldnt be the ONLY THING WORTH PLAYING THE GAME FOR!!!!! Claus Not to mention people quitting due to the sense of loss they feel when their 3 month time investment is utterly slain and deleted. I know I would probably quit if someone killed me, or I died to a monster - fairly or to (god forbid) lag or disconnects at the worst possible moment. And I'll tell you what, the defeated are not the only people quitting - If I have to sit around and wait for weeks till my enemies have rebuilt their characters so they can fight me one more time - well that ain't gonna keep me playing either. A properly designed system will account disconnects, lag deaths etc. And some people will quit, hell they quit SB in droves when they lost their city... Most of em came back. All of them would have come back if the game was FUN and ran even Slightly stable. A lot of beefs for losing their city were the time it tooked but an equal amount were due to enemies Stacking and causing the defenders to be frozen for up to 20 minutes because of network issues. Also WhyTF are you waiting for dead people to rebuild their characters? What is DF gonna have 10 people playing it? Enemies are everywhere! Play and alfar and you'll see that! Claus Additionally, MMORPGs have been plagued by cheaters and exploiters - these people ruin enough peoples gaming experiences already, imagine how devastating aimbots, wallhacks, speedhacks, gold/item duping, godmodes etc would be if the unlucky target of a cheater was permanently dead in addition to being cheated out of a fair fight. Yeah... that would suck if the devs did nothing huh? That has nothing to do with PD. As you already said there a problem with or without. They need to be addressed individually with the true permadeath... CD BAN. (And possibly Criminal charges where applicable) Claus I think permadeath is the worst feature in real life, so I can't see why we need to have it in MMORPGs. Yeah but it rocks in games doesnt it? Every year Baseball gets their stats reset and try to fight there way back to the World series... And not every team is winner is it? There can be only one. Same with hockey, football etc.... By your logic if the yankees lost the World series they should get naked, have a time out and goto the locker room and come back ready to rock.... When people lose THEY LOSE. Game OVER. The system Baseball uses now is almost EXACTLY what people are asking for in game. Think about it because it paradigms almost as well as boxing. Claus keep in mind your not designing a new real life... your designing a game....
Great work!
